Chairwoman Hautala has received with great concern the news of Thich Nhat Panh monks having to leave the Vietnamese pagoda where they have been in shelter since September. This possible prologue to a tragedy was caused by strong mob pressure.  Hautala strongly condemns this crackdown of the peaceful community. The authorities must inform where those already detained are and ensure that they are not ill-treated. Vietnamese authorities must immediately stop the persecution of this community. They must protect the rights of minorities and guarantee the right to practise their religion. Chairwoman Hautala looks forward to discussing these issues at the first opportunity.
