Chairwoman Hautala met on 10.11. with Laetitia de Radigues, Head of Brussels Office of the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT). The IRCT is a network of more than 140 torture rehabilitation centres and programmes throughout the world and has a long cooperation partnership with the European Parliament, especially the Subcommittee on Human Rights. Chairwoman Hautala discussed with Ms.Radrigues the EU strategies and funding to combat torture and how more support could be given to the actions needed for the rehabilitation of victims of torture worldwide. Both agreed that while it is commendable that the EU guidelines on combating torture exist, there is a lot more to be done in their implementation and that the European Parliament can play a key role in the promotion for more effective implementation.
