European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights will hold tomorrow hearing on new information technologies and human rights with representatives of Nokia Siemens and Google[:], amongst others. Recent human rights violations brought about by abuse of surveillance and information technology, most notably in Iran and China, have instigated intensive debate all around the world about the responsibility of international companies who operate with oppressive states in the field of communications technology.
European Parliament in 10th of February strongly condemned Iranian authorities for jamming of international radio and TV networks and criticised international companies, and notably Nokia/Siemens, for providing the Iranian authorities with the necessary censorship and surveillance technology, thereby aiding in persecution and arrests of Iranian dissidents.
