The founding principles of EU oblige the Union to ensure accountability for serious human rights violations at all times. In line with this, the EU is committed to the fight against most serious human rights violations, such as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, over which the International Criminal Court has jurisdiction. Chairwoman Hautala stressed that the European Parliament is a long standing supporter and promoter of the universal ratification of the Rome Statute which is the statute of the Court and strives to promote universal ratification of the Rome Statute. Ms.Hautala invited President Song to address the European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights in 2010.
