Chairwoman Hautala met on 26 January Menouar Alem, the Ambassador of Morocco[:]
to discuss the human rights situation in Morocco and cooperation in this regard with the EU, the Subcommittee on Human Rights especially. [:]Advancements with regards women’s rights and social reforms were discussed in more detail and the work of the national Subcommittee on Human Rights was noted with great interest. Morocco’s progress is especially welcome as the human rights developments in the Mediterranean region has more often than not resulted in grave disappointments, as most obviously in the case of Tunisia and Syria, the Chair noted. Ambassadors of Morocco have traditionally cooperated closely with the European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights and Chairwoman Hautala expressed her sincere wishes that this would continue throughout her legislature.
