Chairwoman Hautala met the representatives of the Euro Burma Network and International Human Rights Defenders to discuss the situation in Burma following the verdict of Ms Aung San Suu Kyi and the upcoming 2010 elections. It was stressed that it is of utmost importance that the elections be conducted in a free and fair manner and that while the elections are undeniably of crucial importance, the as an overarching matter remains the need to review the constitution concerning the safety guards of democracy.
