In response to a letter from an Ingushetian human rights advocate Mr Ibragim Lianov, requesting Subcommittee on Human Rights to discuss human rights situation in Ingushetia, Chairwoman Hautala agreed that the issue should indeed be given attention. [:]
Dear Mr Ibragim Lianov,
Thank you for your letter, which we received on 10th of January, requesting the European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights to discuss the human rights situation in Ingushetia.
I am very much in agreement that the issue is of great importance and I will make every effort that due attention shall be given to the persistent impunity for human rights violations and the responsibility of the authorities to protect human rights of all the people in Ingushetia.
Moreover, I would like to express my pleasure for the excellent cooperation we have had since I resumed the Chairmanship of the Subcommittee.
I strongly wish that this cooperation will continue in the future and that we would remain in close contact also from now on.
With kindest regards,
Heidi Hautala
Chairwoman of European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights
