Chairwoman of European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights expresses great concerning regarding the decision of the Sudanese government to prevent participation of Sudanese human rights lawyer and member of the National Assembly, Salih Mahmoud Osman to the International Criminal Court Review Conference in Kampala, Uganda. Mr Osman is also a recipient of the prestigious 2007 European Parliament Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. According to the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) Mr Osman was detained long enough to prevent him from embarking to the Conference and that the authorities also confiscated his passport to prevent him from leaving later on. It seems that also other human rights activists have been detained and prevented from leaving in a similar manner.Chairwoman stresses that the right to leave is a fundamental human right guaranteed by Article 42 (2) of the Sudanese constitution and Article 12(2) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights. Sudan must thus promptly allow those activists who wish to do so to embark to Uganda. Moreover, should all activists be not freed yet the authorities must do so without delay.
