Heidi Hautala

Chairwoman Hautala met a delegation of the North Korean defectors, accompanied by the Christian Solidarity Network NGO, on 5. November. In the meeting the delegation informed Chairwoman Hautala of the pervasive human rights violations in North Korea. Chairwoman Hautala expressed her grave concern over the culture of impunity for violations against human rights in North Korea, pervasively weak status for fundamental rights and right to food as well as the weak protection of the rights of refugees. Chairwoman expressed her strong wish that European parliament would give attention to these issues in the future and cooperate in this regard with the United Nations and its special rapporteur on North Korea, Vitit Muntarbhorn.
