Chairwoman Hautala´s office met with a representative of the European Disability Forum, Janina Arsanijeva, on 13.10.2009 to discuss the rights of people with disabilities in the European Union. It was discussed in detail how the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities could be better integrated into the EU institutions and policies. The treaty is the first UN human rights treaty the EC has signed and thus a major development in the European human rights field.
